    THAT Council closes the meeting to the public pursuant to section 90 (1) of the Community Charter to permit discussion of items related to the following topics: (a), personal information about an identifiable individual who holds a position of officer with the municipality, (i), the receipt of advice that is subject to solicitor-client privilege, including communication necessary for that privilege, (k), law enforcement, if the council considers that disclosure could reasonably be expected to harm the conduct of an investigation under or enforcement of an enactment, and (m), a matter that, under an other enactment, is such that the public may be excluded from the meeting.

    THAT Council directs staff to send correspondence from Mayor and Council to Area C Director Mack requesting the establishment of a shared funding approach to costs associated with supporting Pemberton Animal Wellbeing Society.

    THAT Council directs staff to send correspondence from Mayor and Council to the Resort Municipality of Whistler thanking them for their $50,000 contribution to regional transit.

    THAT Council sends correspondence to Líl̓wat Nation Chief and Council proposing collaborating to update the Village gateway signs with signs welcoming visitors to the Valley.

CAO Tracy reported Council about a letter received from BC Transit, which expressed gratitude to the Village of Pemberton for the correspondence sent to the Ministry of Transportation. In that letter, BC Transit also outlined its key goals as follows: 

  • To develop and expand transit across the province and strengthen key rural and inner-city transportation services, with a specific reference to working toward regular local transit service in the Sea to Sky Corridor.  
  • To support BC's road infrastructure balanced with integrated transit opportunities. 

CAO Tracy informed Council about her meeting with Sergeant Gilmore from the RCMP and representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture regarding the roaming horses. The representatives volunteered to assist by writing a letter seeking the endorsement of the Village of Pemberton, Lil'wat Nation, the Squamish and Lillooet Regional District, and the RCMP. This letter will advocate to the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (MOTI) for lowering the speed limit on the highway, particularly from the Lillooet River bridge to the Industrial Park, to 60 km/h. Once the letter is ready, it will be sent to the Village of Pemberton and partners for endorsement.   

CAO Tracy updated Council regarding the successful grant application received from the Union of BC Municipalities (UBCM) Regional Community to Community (C2C) grant funding program, which will provide $10,000 to support the 2025 Nuk̓w7ántwal̓ Gathering.

Mayor Richman reported and attended the following meetings: 

  • Squamish-Lillooet Regional District (SLRD)
  • Sea to Sky Regional Hospital District Board
  • Northern Mayors and Chairs
  • Sea to Sky Regional Transit Commission/Committee

Mayor Richman informed the Council that he and his wife are working to bring cardiopulmonary resuscitation training (CPR) to our community, including businesses and schools. Mayor Richman met with a community paramedic to collaborate on this project. To advance this initiative, Mayor Richman sought the support of the Village of Pemberton Council. 

Councillor Ramsden reported and attended the Pemberton Valley Utilities & Services Committee (PVUS).

Councillor Nightingale reported and attended the Pemberton Arts Council.

Councillor Helmer reported about her recent meeting with the BC Women's Institute.
